Citadella

Perched atop Gellért Hill, the Citadella offers one of Budapest’s best panoramic views over the Danube, Buda Castle, and Parliament. Built by the Habsburgs in the mid-19th century to assert control after the 1848–49 revolution, the fortress later became a symbol of surveillance and power. Today, visitors come primarily for the vistas, sunset photo spots, and a sense of the city’s layered history. Access involves an uphill walk or bus; the site’s exterior and viewpoints are the main draw, as interiors are limited. Combine with nearby Gellért Baths or the Liberty Statue for a half-day outing.
