About Durres Castle

Durrës Castle is one of Albania’s most important historic landmarks, with origins in the Byzantine era and later additions from Venetian and Ottoman periods. Although only parts of the original fortifications survive, its thick walls and towers still hint at the city’s strategic role on the Adriatic coast. Located near the center of Durrës, the site is easy to combine with a stroll through the old town and waterfront. It is especially worthwhile for visitors interested in history, archaeology, and the layered past of one of Albania’s oldest cities.
