About Victoria Memorial

Victoria Memorial is Kolkāta’s grand white-marble monument to the British Raj, set amid broad gardens near the Maidan. Built between 1906 and 1921 in a blend of classical and Mughal-inspired styles, it now houses a museum with paintings, historical objects, and exhibits on the city’s colonial past. Visitors come for both the architecture and the setting: the building is especially striking at sunset, and the grounds offer a calm break from busy central Kolkāta. It suits travelers interested in history, photography, or one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
