About Independence Monument

Phnom Penh’s Independence Monument is one of the city’s best-known landmarks, commemorating Cambodia’s independence from France in 1953. Designed in a lotus-shaped Khmer style, it stands at a prominent roundabout near the riverfront and several major boulevards. While visitors cannot explore the interior, it is worth seeing for its historical symbolism, elegant architecture, and central location. It is especially attractive at night, when the monument is illuminated and the surrounding area becomes a pleasant place for a short walk or photos.
