Sarandë, Albania
Castle of Ali Pasha, near Sarandë on the Butrint lagoon, is a small 19th-century fortress linked to the powerful Ottoman ruler Ali Pasha of Tepelena. Its main appeal is the atmospheric setting: surrounded by water, with quiet views of the lagoon, nearby hills, and the channel to Corfu. Though modest in size and partially ruined, it offers a glimpse of the region’s Ottoman-era history and makes a worthwhile stop for travelers visiting Butrint or exploring the coast.
