Forty Saints Monastery

Forty Saints Monastery is a ruined 6th-century Byzantine monastery set on a hill above Sarandë, offering wide views over the town and Ionian coast. Once an important pilgrimage site, it is valued today for its historical atmosphere, early Christian heritage, and scenic setting rather than elaborate preserved interiors. Visitors interested in archaeology, local history, or quieter viewpoints will find it especially rewarding, though the site is modest and partly in ruins. It works best as a short stop combined with exploring Sarandë or nearby Butrint.
